Seen this while Revolver hunting almost pulled the Hammer back then I wasn’t sure if it was in season so…I took my phone and shot her( think female) with my shutter.

I mentioned elsewhere that one winter in Nov. And Dec. in 1989 I house sat for my Grandparents. Well ( I know this sounds weird)I was traveling back after dark to my grandparents house I ran over to eat dinner at my parents house) it was about 5 miles through heavy woods and I had a Black Panther jump over a fence into an old Well Road right in front of the light of my 3-wheeler. I had no weapon.
13 years later I seen another one which jumped out of a tree behind me while coming out of the woods while revolver hunting . In both cases I got clear looks at them and the first was bigger than the later and they quickly scurried away. I dont recall which year it was but my dad was sitting in the kitchen where the big window overlooks the hillside of the property and He called me in quickly as one was running down off the hillside to the creek for a small drink of water than quickly ran away again. Bounding enormous distances. I havent seen one since. Okay enough rambling.

Not up to me to say otherwise, I’ve seen some in a S FL Zoo and they are scary big, and they hunt by ambush, wait in a tree for their prey to walk under and past and pounce from above/behind

Don’t think for a minute that after that second one jumped out of that tree behind me in 2002 that I didn’t carry an extra pair of draws for a few years after that

Like i said earlier. Any type of cat in our woods gets shot.
I was working on the electric fence yesterday and shot a groundhog with my little Sig 365 at about 20 yds. It was running back and forth. It took me 7 shots to hit it 3 times. I figure thats not to bad for the distance and size of the target along with it moving.

My story ain’t as good as a black panther. Short of it was up in a tree stand when a hawk decided to make me company while I tried to get some venison for my freezer.

Thefirst one I seen when I was 17 was at least 1/3 bigger than the second. It was crazy scary big tail was as long as its body nearly and as big around as a drinking glass head was about the size of a #5 soccer ball(beginner large ball) I was scared crapless. I slammed those brakes and it looked straight at me. I was frozen then it turned its head and with a single bound was way over the bank of the road. I drove so fast the rest of the way in the dark I nearly wrecked :joy::joy:

I remember being scared out of my wits . went straight in the house locked the door and called by dad and told him what I seen he was very interested. Told me not to worry .

your probably quite right scary thing for a 17yr. old. I hadn’t even seen a bobcat at that point in my life.

Okay Gather around folks !!!
Uncle Stan is gonna spin a yarn or 2 .!!
So my Dad Stan Sr. Had only been married a couple of years and had just moved back from AZ to WV to help his Dad with his farm because his Grandfather got sick and ended up dying.
Dad had went out and purchased a Savage over and under with 22WMR on top and 20gauge on bottom.
He had worked most of the Day with his dad and decided to take the last few hours to go try out his new gun and shoot a few squirrel.
He had been walking up an old Gas well road and seen a tree stump from a set of double chesnut oak trees one was cut the other wasnt. So he said it was like a really low chair. I sat down on it he said and fell asleep rather quickly. He said I remember thinking man what stinks sooo bad. He thought he was dreaming it . Then He said the smell was so bad he opened his eyes. There with its front paws on his knees with its nose almost touching his was a Red Fox . He said " I hollered and it jump and ran the gun was laying across my lap in the same direction it took off in and I grabbed and swung it and pulled the trigger hitting it and killing it. Dad said he was tickled pink because Fox hides was work between 35-50 bucks back in those days ,the early 70’s. So he said I went over and picked up the fox and hadn’t walked very far and seen a Fox Squirrel run up a tree. He said I reloaded and shot the squirrel. It was getting dusk and Dad said He was now carrying the Red Fox and Fox Squirrel and going down the old Gas Well road. In the sky light up in a tree He could see another animal. He said I reloaded and shot it. Went over to the tree and it was a Raccoon. He walked back down to my Grandfathers house and presented his prizes. My Dad told me that story many times through the years. He is gone now but I know the story is true and I often catch myself looking in the trees walking out of the woods during squirrel season.
