NY to Allow Non-Resident Conceal Carry Permits

I thought this was interesting news:

I have no plans to go to NY anytime soon, nor have I looked into all the requirements to get a non-resident license, but this sounds like a step in the right direction for 2A rights.

Dang, I replied to the wrong thread! How’s that for a major thread derail? Meant to reply to the other thread I just posted. My forum skills suck. :frowning:

Yeah but we don’t have moderators beating people down for off topic posting etc

Lets all just be real and do the best we can, might be someone reads this and it was just what they needed to find

Besides, as a contributor you’re a de facto owner and can largely do what you want anyhow :+1: , so cross posting is fine, cross dressing still vorboten

Is this only NYC for NY residents? Last I knew the state in general didn’t recognize any other state’s permits, so you have to file for a NYS permit - usually through a local Sheriff or municipal police department. Hopefully we residents of NY State will get more recriprocal rights. I don’t blame other states since we were so snobbish previously.

Don’t worry about it . Last time I was in New York I carried everywhere with no problems. I just look at it as what they don’t know wont hurt them . The gun I carried could not be traced to me so if I had to use it I would just toss it in the nearest trash bin .

Good question. My reading of it is that it’s for NY state, but I could be wrong about that. Anyone here from NY who can expound more on that?

Yes. My brother just did the out of state CWP for Pennsylvania. He has "resident’ permit for NJ.
The county Sheriff in his vacation home’s county would not sign off. BUT the sign off does not have to come from a particular county. He went over to York county and the Sheriff there signed it.
I see SSDD in NYC Nyc and downstate won’t be in any hurry to hand them out as the areas are infested with d-rat POS. - This was a topic at the club yesterday as many of us are close to NYC.
Most of us confessed we have been doing what JTR said since the 70’s.

Like a LOT of states, New York State is seven large cities and the rest pretty much rural. The “Northern Zone” in the Adirondacks and above has long been less restrictive. This area was slug-shotgun only for living memory, but a dozen years back opened much to centerfire rifle. HUGE change in the way I hunted.

We had a GREAT local sheriff who basically told the State Police to “pound salt” when they asked for his records on handgun permits (they are issued by counties but good statewide - except where local ordinances forbid and places like federal courthouses and schools, etc.). HE never did provide them, so the State Police had to hunts us down “honor system” and we report ownership. I’m seeing a LOT of signs on businesses that say “Conceiled Carry Welcome” and that warms the heart.

Interestingly enough, a court just ordered California to do the same:

The last time I was jn Mineville there were more rebel flags than in Missouri .

Yeah. You get that. My Great-Great Grandpa was in the NY 9th Heavy Artillery in the Civil War and I will never show any flag except the US Stars and Bars.

I think all this is so far is a Fed court order that NY has to allow non-state residents permits to carry. I am not sure the state has actually set up any process to facilitate this. It would be like the Far Left to drag their feet and make it darn near impossible for a non-resident to actually obtain a state LTC.

I’m sure one of my fellow club members will try and get one. 2 have large properties upstate NY.
Both have their NJ CWP.
I let ya know if and when they get approved

IF they get approved.

I was recently visiting friends back in the Soviet State of illinois, and shocked one of the gun store owners when I showed him my Illinois LTC card - with a Texas address! He had never seen an out-of-state permit from Illinois before. I suspect NY may be like that too.

I’m due to renew my out of state Fl permit next year. I’ve had it 25+ years.
Last 7 year renewal at Fl Dept of agriculture took 19 minutes from when I walked in the door in Tampa office. Even though permit less carry is legal since July 1 2023 - I will still get my permit renewed.
