Camping Gear ,tents,stoves,lights,food rations…etc…
As I am getting a little older I have been considering getting a E-Spot GPS emergency notification device. How do they do it out west ? Satellite phones ?
Check out some of Garmin’s stuff. You can send and receive texts almost anywhere. A lot less expense than a sat phone.
Wow I didnt know that… Have any idea what its called ? Garmin model that is ?
Still takes a subscription but it was really cool.
Those remind me of the Nextel 2 way, look pretty cool, but you’re limited to only others with the same thing correct?
I took it that one could text a phone number from them they run through iridums satellite service for their cellphines but they are Garmin devices. I may be wrong
my understanding is you can text any cell phone and receive texts. i could be wrong.
I think your right thats how I understood it also when I read it .
Also check out Andy Cool at Explorer Satellite in Ft Lauderdale. I rent sat phones from him for back country hunting. He has many choices on communication devices and great year end deals.
He might have what you need or great info you can use.
My boys love camping. Admittedly, our version of camping is “car camping” where we drive to a state park, unload our tents and set it all up at a designated campsite next to a bunch of other families doing the same. But they love campfire, roasting marshmallows and hot dogs, etc. Some parks have cell service while others don’t. I’d like to take them camping at a more secluded spot, like at Big Bend State Park, and maybe even get to see a real starry night.
We have a lot of campgrounds up here, bewilders me to see people drive from the city , set up camp immediately next to other campers, then go back to the city feeling they got it
Here in Texas, most of the state is privately owned. So not many options here to get away from state parks with crowded camping spots unless you own or lease some land way out in the country, drive many hours to some place like Big Bend, or drive out of state many hours. Not as crowded in the summer, though. 100+ degree heat with mosquitoes, chiggers, scorpions, rattlesnakes and other biting creatures tends to keep many of my fellow Texans in air conditioned homes.
My wifes family even has a family camp tucked away in the mountains away from people very private, Black bears,Bob Cats,Rattlesnakes ,Deer all commonly seen. I always take a gun with me . But some of the best camping experiences i ever had were there. I also have done quite a few camping trips in the mountains by myself Fishing and Hiking . I do have a good friend (was my sergeant) I fish and hunt with . He just bought a boat supposed to go fishing next month
Thats why most of Texas is hard to see why anyone would endeavor to live there. West Texas mountians seems okay and far east side . Center of Texas👎
Yeah, the Texas outdoors ain’t for sissies, that’s for sure. Never been to WV, but the pictures make it look real nice. Did the remote work types flood your state and buy up a bunch of property? They sure came here in droves despite the summer heat.
You and your kids can come camp at my place. It is definitely dark at night. There are wild critters out there… especially cows, but also coyotes and an occasional deer. I have seen a couple of copperheads but not seen any rattlesnakes.
Thanks! And that reminds me, let me know when you need help clearing brush or needing an extra hand to set up your range.
