Lots of variable there but .5 target is small, how fine are your sites and how light is your trigger for starters, condition of your rifle, ammo, environmental conditions etc
I’d say with a 22 and @ 20 yards assuming you’re small game hunting to allow yourself more of a quarter size control group vs a dime.
I was using a Geissele SSA at 5.5#, and a Leupold 1-6x LPVO. It was an indoor range which didn’t allow going prone, and I could only support the front of the rifle on the bench, not the back.
My idea was to use cheap 22lr to get better with my defensive setup, since right now I’m a 2MOA shooter with a similar gun, same trigger and scope, when shooting 77gr OTM.
The 22 conversions are nice but the twist in your barrel isnt the best for 22s. I do get the same point of impact as 5.56 at 25yds with one of my m4s. Your groups are fine for what you are doing with that set up.
I just took the .22 AR build to the range yesterday after putting on an old Valor scope of my Dads. CMMG conversion unit ran perfect. I used a LazerLyte bore scope and first shots @30 yds were close to center.
I always said that is the exact thing I feel 22 does. It is a great tool for grip, stance and everything included. When on doesnt focus in recoil then one can hone and sharpen other much needed skill with the 22lr
