If you hit any of the above forums, you will find fanboys of each manufacturer. They tend to be rather rabid in their support, trashing the other manufacturer. MY take…
Sig makes combat weapons that are reliable, well designed, with many aftermarket and manufacturer’s parts to “tune” your favorite weapon. Even the striker-fired models have mods that improve their reliability and shootability. Barrel swaps with manufacturer’s barrels are generally simple drop-in deals.
HK makes fine weapons but with little real consideration of the civilian use. They seem totally fixated upon military and LEO usage. Consequently, their “fan boys” are usually cops. They function nicely but have relatively close tolerances. So hand loaded ammo may not function well in some of their models. I have had 2 USP’s that were in .45 ACP and BOTH were VERY sensitive to bullet ogive. I had to shorten OAL on my usual load settings to get my reloads to properly chamber. No 1911 had that problem. The other strong objection I have had with HK is their triggers. I did manage to install Gray Guns SRT kits in my 3 HK’s and that made some difference but nothing like what such a kit does for an Sig. I admit to being trigger-sensitive, a function of growing up shooting 1911’s I believe, which still have THE finest trigger in the business. Best compliment any trigger gets is that it resembles a 1911 trigger.
?What say you guys. ?What is your favorite model of the above manufacturers.
I love my 226’s, MK25’s. Really no issue with any of the Sigs that run that DA/SA de-cocker setup. HK has never gained my favor, pistols all seemed oversized for my smaller hands and the rifles all seemed overpriced for what they are. Technically all the Sigs I own are pistols, both P716 and PM400 were early braced models, love the 400, the 716 is a jam-O-matic.
Used to keep this one in the car almost everywhere I went, showing why you let them warm up in the case before you open it, -20 to indoors gives it an instant white camo job;
I have a few sigs and a few H&K’s Guess the favorites on the sigs would be in pistol the Legion 226 X5 and P220 in 10mm handguns and the rifle would be the tread.
I did run one of those a lot, great ergonomics, love the paddle mag release and never failed to fire, due to the front high site I learned to use a combat hold for site picture which I still use now even though I no longer have that pistol
As I recall I replaced the front site which was not enough to keep me from needing to change how I shoot, and I did a trigger job which I don’t recall being really worth the effort, I’d buy another.
Good looking rifle, surprised to see that scope vs a dot of some sort though.
So it seems you guys who responded tend towards the Sigs.
I had a P30 but sold it. I changed out the sights, which were a pain to do. Absolutely hated the trigger - the curve would bite my finger. My son had the same issue with the trigger.
I have a couple USPc’s that I like. One in .45 ACP and the other in .357 Sig. Iff it weren’t for the lousy trigger, I’d consider carrying it. It is about the size of an Officer 1911 or P239.
I admit to being a trigger nut. I grew up on 1911’s and no one has made a better trigger than what’s on those guns. Some come close, but only if a talented gunsmith breathes on them.
?Why. I have seen a few FN’s and thought they were nice guns, but not worth the cash. But that was a cursory look; I’ve never had one to shoot for a while. ?Do they have good after-market support. One of Sig’s pluses is that there are all kinds of aftermarket items to be had.
