The Manurhin (I misspelled it in the poll) MR73 is a French double action revolver in .357 Magnum that is the sidearm of the elite GIGN national hostage rescue team. The GIGN trains daily with full power .357 Magnum ammo, and the MR73 is designed to withstand this. It is a super high quality revolver that is supposedly the most durable DA revolver in the world. It costs about $4000.
I am intrigued by the Rhino, but not enough to spend what they want for one. I would stick to the classics, S&W or Colt. Like @BB454 , I have a GP100 that I don’t shoot often enough for durability to be a concern.
I vote for the Manhurin MR73 as my number one for its reputation of withstanding daily use with unlimited rounds of full power .357 Mag ammo, and the fact that although I would like one, there is no way I can afford one.
Number two for me would be a recent production Colt Anaconda in .44 Mag and 4" barrel. I like the look, feel and the way it handles. And I’ve read that they hold up well to extended firing with full power ammo. I could actually buy one of those if I really wanted to, and may eventually do so.
The reality is though, I will probably never be able to fire enough .357 to wear out my GP100. Ammo cost to do so would greatly exceed the price of an MR73. And, my 4" Redhawk .44 Mag is more robust than the Anaconda; and the better way to spend that money would be to buy more .44 Magnum reloading components.
Awesome post — and you’ve got me curious now. I honestly don’t even know what a Manurhin is, so sell me on it. I may end up changing my vote.
Also, congratulations: you’ve apparently wandered into some unexplored Sixguns territory here. This is a sort of hybrid post — poll + Post Voting/Q&A — so it works differently from a normal topic. I was confused trying to quote and reply to you because it only allows an “Answer” or a comment under an answer. I don’t want to block anybody from creating these kinds of posts or using polls, but since they behave differently, we probably need to make us
I’m old school. So my choices would be a Korth and an S&W, probably both in .357 Mag. Not a big fan of heavy recoil, and .44 Mag just beats the bejesus out of my hands. Wish I knew where I could fine a set of Jordan grips for a Smith. I think they used to be made by Herrit.
