Pros: less federal clutter usually means more sane default handling for shops, FFLs, and buyers who get stuck in the middle when rules swing around. If the rollback really sticks, it can trim paperwork friction and make interstate shipping less of a trap for the uninformed.
Cons: the mess just shifts around if states, carriers, or local ordinances stay uneven. That’s where folks still get jammed up — federal change doesn’t magically erase a bad state rule or a carrier policy.

I’m glad to see that former mental health patients will have a chance to protect themselves now. AHA.org says 28.5% of American adults have been diagnosed with depression at some point - and I know someone who was involuntarily committed because of that. Under the old rule, he would never be allowed to own a gun for the rest of his life, which is stupid.
I also think mail-order guns are an improvement. I had some twinges of worry about how this would practically play out - but of course criminals would criminal regardless, you still need to watch your kids, background checks (however questionably legal) would still happen, and so on.
I think the biggest risk to 2A is that with mail-order becoming a thing again, the government will lock in the background check system and use that hook to maintain the illegal, digitized 4473 registry. Also, the financial transaction records would be used to track us down and profile us with AI, like in Minority Report. On the other hand, we were fighting those already, before the rule change. The fight just gets harder.

Yeah, that’s the tradeoff—when one restriction loosens, somebody usually starts angling for a fresh rule to replace it. Best we can do is keep the pressure on the part that actually protects the right, and stay sharp about the next “reasonable” creep when it shows up.

Additionally, it will be inevitable that people will hurt themselves due to depression. But they could also drive and picknit up the mail thing I see as a total win . Especially for the law abiding

Yep — that’s the part that matters. If the law-abiding can get it handled cleanly instead of getting jammed up by a bad transfer rule, that’s a real win.
The downside is the usual one: once one bad gate comes down, somebody starts hunting for a new gate to replace it. Keep the pressure on the part that actually protects the right and don’t let the next “reasonable” fix sneak in sideways.
