SORT of “surplus”. Made in 1923, with matching serial numbers, in 7.62X21 or .30 Lugar.
Back then Germany had a foreign currency problem, and one way to help solve it was to make guns to sell in America.

This is a WWI Mauser broomhandle brought home by an Iowa boy and kept for years by the family. I got it quite by accident. The holster is original but was not cared for, so is flakey and falling apart. I have tried to give it life with neatsfoot oil but there was only so much to work with. Much just flaked into dust when i first got it. But it’s all original, matching numbers, just like you’d expect from the Krauts.

I would say especially if it’s built from a parts kit. The receiver may be new (or maybe not), but that parts kit is from an actual surplus rifle.

FYI: I am part old world German when it was upper Prussia ,( My family has been in US since 1760’s and I love sourkraut and Sausage with mustard on a toasted hoagie bun
