Methodology
Firearm ownership in the United States is not officially monitored or tracked. As a result, we rely on self-reported data, as well as NICS and NSSF reports, to estimate the number of households that own guns.
Here is the methodology for the data below:
All household data are estimates derived from various self-reported surveys and purchase reports.
All data are cross-referenced with Census Bureau information to ensure accuracy and reliability.
We consulted a wide range of sources to ensure the accuracy of this report.
Number of U.S. Households Owning a Gun
According to recent surveys, 53.3 million households in the U.S. have at least one firearm, representing 42% of all households. 1, 5
I dont believe that for a minute… 42% is very low … that has to be a estimate… is there any way they( nics nssf) back that statistic , and why would they be even holding that data , a summary list of who to go get first ? Every one I know has at least a shotgun or a hunting rifle. I guess WV will be prepared for the coming war. Seeing how we are 4th on the list of households with guns. I still dont see how that information storage is legal by them also. So what this article reveals is there IS a list . Uh huh yep thanks for sharing
Consider that probably more than 70% of the population lives in urban settings, that number isn’t off by much I would hazard. MOST of my neighbors aren’t armed, and I live in Dallas.
I live in the Missouri Ozarks at least 8 miles from any town . My closest neighbor is 1/4 mile away and on a nice weekend it sounds like a running gun battle with everyone out shooting or hunting . We have one bunch 2 miles down the road that have a compound where you hear full auto most weekends .
I’d guess it’s pretty close. Most country folks here do have a gun or two, but aren’t gun folks. But there are a few that are gun folks. Most of the town folks don’t have guns though that I’ve seen. Even here, there is a big city attitude about guns.
That does suck too, the gun culture is not as big as I’d wish it were, lack of necessity, other priorities, media dumping on us, no doubt one of those things you don’t know what you had until its gone
Yes but so far the gun culture is pretty wide apread. Down here in Texas the “Joe the Plumber” type guys and gals are common - even (thank God!) in the Blue counties of Dallas, etc. It is less than I expected when I moved down here but WAY MORE than what I had when I lived in Lake County, IL - one of the “collar counties” around Chicago. For Dessert Storm, I was the ONLY one I know of who went. Indeed I may have recounted how my daughter’s 1st grade teacher called my wife to tell her my daughter was telling fibs in school, to wit that her daddy had gone off to war. My wife gave her the appropriate couple seconds, then said that I had, indeed, been called to Active Duty as part of the mobilization. She was completely shocked to find anyone from my neighborhood had “gone to war”.
There were other corporate issues. i lived in a zip code that was half Lake County (where I lived) and half Cook, the notorious gun-control county. Cheaper Than Dirt simply refused to ship me anything; they. are now STILL on my “sh*t list” I won’t buy anything from them. Indeed, ONLY Springfield Arms actually looked. I had purchased a SOCOM and they had an offer for free 20 rnd mags (3 as I remember). I had put in for that but they sent me 3 10-rnd mags. I called them to complain. The guy actually looked up my address! It was a mile into Lake Co, wihich DID allow the 20 rnd mags - so he sent them to me. I asked if he wanted the smaller ones back and he said to just keep them. So the corporate complex that benefits the most from gun guys doesn’t always support their inherent client base. Sad but true.
Yes they are “cities”, but at least not as Blue as most. The weather is PERFECT - nice and WARM. Not the snow and ice you Northerners get all the time. By the end of January we’ll be in the 70’s or better. I get to run my Vette the way it was made to run for most of the year. No sitting in a Wrangler freezing to death in the snow.
Personally I can take or leave “the mountains”. Too much weather drama. I like hot. Car runs FAST in 100+ temps with no heating issues. LOVE running 100+ in the Express Lane on Sunday, on the way to or from church (like seriously +100!!!).
We tend to deal with crime a bit differently than most “cities” - to wit, we SHOOT them. Texas is the ONLY STATE that allows deadly force use for protection of PROPERTY! That alone makes a lot of points.
I just drove thru Dallas over the holidays and it still sucks . Raining so hard you cant see and the roads are so bad the water collects inches deep on them . And people driving like it is sunny and 100 * .
That pretty much describes ANYONE from the “South” - put an inch or two on the road and everyone drives like they’re riding a porcupine bare-back.
Dallas has the added problem of poor drainage. ONE reason our 100 degree summers are so tolerable is that the humidity is so low. Not dessert low, but way lower than the mid and upper states. So while @WV460HUNTER may have and tolerate 80’s and 90’s, usually the humidity rivals the temp. Not so here in Dallas. BUT when we get our occasional rain storm, streets flood. Ain’t no place but ONE that is perfect, and my chest is still sucking air, so I ain’t there yet. I can only hope!
