Bourbon was my Grandfather’s Chest cold , Bronchitis, remedy. He would Down a Big cup of Bourbon and go get in Bed and cover up with about 4 or 5 blankets . He used it strictly for a medicinal purpose. Well grandpa was a minister and some folk was over to visit . And The Husband of the couple was thirsty Granny said oh just get ya cup out of the cabinet . Cold water is in the fridge. WELL, of course the husband seen the bottle of Bourbon ( think it was JD. ) and got all kinds of offended and uppity and never went back to church. ( probably was looking for an excuse not to go anyway) Well Grandpa got really upset over it. Threw the medicine out and from then on always went and got antibiotics if He got a bad chest cold. That was many years before my Grandfather passed but I am sure it always bothered him. As I understood it the guy wouldn’t even hear Grandpa out on it. It was an old time remedy . Bourbon, lemon and Honey the original cough syrup.
