the glock 36 (single stack 45) would pinch me when i used the mags that had a +2 mag extension. Never had any problem w/a glock 30. I dont need another glock but this one will probably have night sights and the price is good.

Well, I guess I should’ve searched first before asking. I just found this and looks like they’re from Ft. Worth:

Anyone know if they’re any good?

Checked with store this one is a Richards Mason conversion:

1851 RICHARDS-MASON NAVY

In 1871, an employee from Colt by the name of Charles Richards was awarded a patent for converting Colt percussion models to breech loading cartridge revolvers. The Richards cartridge conversion was an instant success. On July 2nd, 1872, William Mason, another employee from Colt, was awarded a patent for an improvement to the Richards model. As percussion parts ran short, the 1860 Richards-Mason barrel was changed from the profile of the earlier percussion model, to the sleek profile found on the 1871-72 Open Top. The 1858 New Army improved conversion was introduced by Remington in circa 1873 with special factory installed two piece cylinder, leaving the loading lever and adding an ejector.

The combination of the design patented by Richards and the cartridge system patented by Mason is known as the Richards-Mason conversion. The characteristics that identify this model are: the rear ring without sight and with a cleft to allow the hammer to hit the cartridge and the special barrel made for the Richards-Mason project. They ARE interesting guns. I believe I talked about them back a ways. I essentially have a pair of Navies like that, but not factory made but moded from cap 'n ball guns. Took a while to get them right, and I don’t have the ejector on the right side. Those with the ejector were a smallish number of guns that left the Colt factory, made up of remaining cap 'n ball guns with some mods (like the ejector), mostly because Colt was attempting to clean house while waiting for the S&W patent to expire. When it did, they came out with the COLT SAA, the gun the westerns made famous (much like the Winchester Model 1894, which is a great rifle but wasn’t even a factor in the Wild West).

What about the 1873 winchester rifle ?

The 1873 was a Winchester work horse. It was used a good bit in the “wild West” and came in a variety of black powder cartridges. It’s problem was lock-up. It was a weak design - hence the warning about black cartridges. When smokeless came into being, it was substantiallly more powerful than the old black cartridges - and 1873 actions didn’t hold them well. BUT that was all solved by JMB’s 1886 design - built like a bank vault.

1873s had a good run though. They were produced in a variety of models over the years, including the 1876, which was military stocked - kind a.

What, some 130 patents covering over 100 guns. Sure agree with your assessment of JMB being a genius.
