Either idea may be good, or perhaps a designation on user cards or similar, there’s a user flag option I can look at that might put a small State or other flag next to a user, save categories until we’re more populated.

That could be good the regions.
For if you’re wanting to talk about laws/government polices those can be just state specific, for instance with Washington State there has been a lot of changes in recent years with police reform measures by the Governor’s office that are causing problems with individual county governments.
However there may be similar policy changes in nearby states such as Oregon and California. Believe Idaho may be different, also just Eastern Washington can be a lot different then west of the mountains.
