How do I know and will you be affected?

Are you now updated enough?

Then you’re in the same boat as me.

But, if you’re not in my boat you may still soon be without a captain if I don’t figure out a fix.

Fix options.

  1. I need a new PC with modern Operating System and Browser.

  2. I change the software we use.

Option 2 does not scare me, I’ve started over many times and we’ve just about outgrown our current server in forms of space without the funds to get larger short of dumping other expenses, i.e. video/blog servers

Option 1 scares me more as I hate change with regards to software as it comes with a price larger than financial, software is upgraded for control, it’s taken away with each new generation, it will end in a simple user interface where you not only pay to play but will need a good credit score as well.

That’s why tech is now everywhere, stove, fridge, and horsepower

Control will be easy, enforcement will be via remote monitor, and likely AI

AI already says the 2A is not a good thing

Option 2 will get us out of the lions den, the current software we use is created by software developers that hate us, one of the three owners publicly donated to the Brady Campaign, there’s much more history and worse to share but that should resonate here well enough.

However, the future is coming on so for me personally I know I will need a new PC at some point, other sites will begin to also not render/work allow logins this software is just very proactive and ahead of the curve.

If I do nothing @albroswift can notify me when updates are needed as I do them on the back end (server direct) due to the UI updates often failing but I myself will not be posting here.

What software might we try to build on?

Possibly this one

There are some one time costs to obtain features but otherwise no subscription dues.

I tried Mastodon, the developers there hated us also and manipulated things to work half ass at best, other ones I tried were just blah compared to the software here, while the people who run it suck as people they do software well, to well it seems.

Anyhow, I’ll delay the update for now but this won’t go away on its own.

I use my phone, so normally no issues with the latest software. Too bad Mastodon sucked, did find some cool stuff there, good to know the left’s ideas. Sorry I’m not as tech savvy as you might need right now.

I agree, it’s supposed to be decentralized and not controlled by anyone but the tech allows a few people to actually control the masses via

though we were hit with other as I’ll term hidden developer controls that I took right to the source by reporting a security bug, slight relief came with 24 hours, some notifications were restored but they never worked after that anywhere near as well as the first few days, it’s open season on freedom among the tech crowd who must have just grown up with some serious issues.

We’ve survived on this software (Discourse) with bigotry by the developers but Mastodon was far worse in terms of control over the software.

Discourse though should not be brushed off as harmless, as I mentioned

I never got any reason for the fall of the FULL30 forum, seen no effort to restore it despite no stated official reason for it’s vanishing, if it were not a deliberate dismantling then restoration should have been easy, so I guess apathy must be present?

We went about six weeks as I recall

before turning this camp into a home.

The fraternity idea seemed, on a small scale, to work well, bills got paid and enough surplus to try the federation.

Now, the enemy will put half their fortune into fighting us and what do we pledge to fight them?

Must just the link on my phone. When I type in www.sixguns.com into the chrome window it works fine.

Yeah, I removed a bunch of old DNS settings when I removed Mastodon, as we started on a sub domain I had forwarded that when the forum moved to tha main domain but that change is over a year old so it was time :wink:

Update will likely occur before I get a new PC so I and anyone who currently see’s the update banner

will be unable to log-in, not my monkey and not my circus, this is a choice the developers defend which I call BS but to no affect.

As to the video side there’s simply no interest to validate the expense plus the forum server will need to expand soon creating more cost we won’t be able to manage at our current supporter size.

Friday is the date planned to remove the video server, I will update as to when I plan to do the software update.

Exactly, any parallels worth noting?

The problem we face overall, rights are eroded, but small ones, nothing that affects us to the point we either fight or work for, not even any discussion.

@Robert I’ve used OSSN before, unless you pay for the Pro version, it’s pretty much garbage.

Though if you want to move away from Discourse, I would recommend using Flarum

I had one member reach out stating they liked things they way they are and I agree despite the owners short comings as humans the software is ahead of the rest.

I did look for an instance on your referral to tryout

Not convinced from just ten minutes looking around.

Wish you were more involved as tech help is in short supply.
