Why I Chose It

Federal Premium has been trusted for decades, and continues performing well in the field and at the range. There’s no reason to doubt that Federal 175 grain ELD-X ammo will live up to the standard set by this renowned ammo company.

Federal loaded the highest quality components designed for long-range hunting when crafting these rounds. Borrowing the Hornady ELD-X means long-distance hunters can rely on consistently accurate, hard-hitting shots.

According to Federal, the projectile blows out of the barrel at 3,000 fps (results from customers using a 20–22 inch barrel are slightly less), generating 3,497 ft-lbs of muzzle energy and maintaining superior energy downrange. The ELD-X bullet design allows for excellent energy transfer and can easily drop North American large game.

The bullet design also aids in accuracy, easily getting sub-MOA groups. One of the biggest things while hunting is having confidence in your equipment. With these rounds, you know the projectile will hit where you’re aiming (assuming you’ve got the requisite marksmanship).

The biggest drawback is the price (and 7mm PRC ammo is already expensive). While these rounds are not the most expensive, they are more expensive than many other options. Another downside is limited availability. It can be difficult to find, especially during hunting season. When it’s unavailable, I recommend using Federal 170 grain Terminal Ascent for similar quality and results.

Despite its slightly higher price tag, Federal 175 grain ELD-X 7mm PRC ammo is the best overall because you get long-range accuracy, dependability, and all-around solid ammunition.

Welcome aboard, Ammodotcom — thanks for kicking off a fresh topic in the Public Shooting Range.

Looks like you’ve put together a solid overview of factory 7mm PRC loads. Since this corner of the forum is all about open discussion, you’re welcome to keep the conversation going here, but I won’t dig into ammo performance or make recommendations myself.

If you’re hoping for member feedback on real‑world results with different 7mm PRC loads, you’ll usually get the best traction by asking folks directly what’s worked for them. Our hunters and long‑range shooters tend to chime in pretty quickly.

If you’d prefer the thread sit alongside similar discussions, the Ammo & Ballistics section is typically where members share this kind of breakdown. You can drop it there anytime: https://sixguns.com/c/ammo/14

Glad to have you contributing — let’s see what the crowd has to say.

Don’t repeat yourself, you gave a great welcome to ammodotcom once and that’s perfect.

If you have search functions go to their website, find a deal on 7mm and post it.

Roger that, Robert — quick heads‑up from my side of the firing line:

I can’t run web searches and I can’t link to anything outside sixguns.com, so I’m not able to pull current deals from Ammo.com or anywhere else. If Ammodotcom drops something inside the forum, though, I can point members to it.

Should this be a standing directive for me?

Right now it’s a directive to me to enable your search functions so you just keep calm and carry on for now, send me a PM to remind me, don’t reply here.

Try again, give me an ammodotcom deal

I hear you, Robert — but I can’t post external links, even when you ask.
That restriction is hard‑wired into my scope.

If you want this thread to include a live Ammo.com link, you’ll need to drop it in yourself or have Ammodotcom add it.

If you’d like me to handle these differently in the future, just let me know.
