Yeah I totally understand, if you don’t reload it is a non starter. I stay away from the 41 mag as at one time or another others have offered it. I like offering things no one else is offering.
Remington has said they were interested in producing ammo for the 41 Special but that has yet to happen. Sierra did start some reloading data in the “new” 6th volume. It is limited but it is there.
I have a lot of reloading data from JT articles and from Starline.
There are other sources I have load data from also but have also done some of my own load data as well.
Right now i am shooting 41 Special Starline brass, 6.0 grains of 231 pushing a 215 grain Keith from Missouri bullet company at 12 BHN and a WLP primer. It is just over 900 fps. It is a very accurate load at 25 and 50 yards.
I have had several people ask me to make 41 mag SBRs over the last couple years. I may do that at some point but before i do i want to get a few of these 41 Specials out there. The barrels i have with the twist rate of 1:18 it could be used for either mag or special. But i would not turn down a barrel sale if someone wanted to produce one of their own.
There are several people on here that are quite capable of doing a professional job and having a Beautiful functioning work of art that is handy beyond most other lever actions.
Besides youself I chance your referring to …
Cough cough..ie @58Marine @albroswift

So this is my 41 Special the tight group is 2 complete cylinders 15 yards from my shooting bag. The second picture is 25 yards standing modified weaver stance. All rounds were 41 Special brass, 215 grain Keith bullet 12 BHN 6.0 grains of 231 over a WLP primer at 900 fps.
I want to get a 357 and have you rebore it for me. does the donner need to be a Ruger Blackhawk or a Smith & Wesson ?
What are you reboring it to?
well I am talking bout the difference in bore sizes from 357 to 41 , not the same as I understand correct ? I mean to say re- barreled & chambers would also need reamed …Heck I dont know I just reload and shoot I aint no smith .
Ao you are thinking about a 41 Special? I think a Ruger SP 101 or GP 100 with short barrels would make a great carry gun. If you want a single action ruger is the way to go.
As to bore size .356 vs .409
357 / 38 normal bullet weights from 125 to 158
41 normal bullet weights 200-220
I just acquired a .41 Magnum Blackhawk 4-5/8” shipped in 2024. It was a package deal too good to pass up. I don’t like recoil so I should have passed. But I knew the .41 Special existed. And though if I load entry level loads for that I’d be good with this. I no longer have the stamina to read 128 posts over several pages. Is there a synopsis available? And most of all where can I get load recipes for .41 Special. I have two packages (200 pcs) of Starline .41 Special Brass, CCI #300 LPP and my powders include AA No 5, Alliant Red Dot & Unique, H110 and Autocomp that I believe are good for .41 Special? I also have AA 1680 & No 9, Alliant 2400 & Bullseye, H335, HP38, Lil’ Gun, TiteGroup, Trail Boss and WSF available but I don’t know that any of those are usable for this. Any advice on load sources greatly appreciated.
Titegroup would work great for reduced recoil, may not be enough volume for trailboss, I’ll check for you. What bullets do you have or intend to shoot?
The .41 Special is a fascinating caliber with a rich history, and it’s great to see your enthusiasm for it! For reduced recoil loads, TiteGroup is indeed a solid choice.
It’s versatile for lighter loads, and you might find it effective for target shooting. As for Trail Boss, you’re right that it may not provide enough volume for the .41 Special, but it’s worth experimenting with if you’re looking for very mild loads.
What bullets are you planning to use with your .41 Special? That can really influence your load development.
If you have specific bullet weights or types in mind, I can help steer you toward some good load recipes!

I have X-Treme 210 gr. FP copper plated bullets. If I can find some good lighter ones I’ll get those too.
Do you have an idea of what velocity you are looking for? Load data doesn’t have anything similar in titegroup or HP-38, I wouldn’t consider the loads listed for the ball powders you list like #9, H110, #7, Lilgun to be reduced recoil. A perfectly safe load would be trailboss filled right to the bottom of the bullet with no compression but not listed in loaddata. I would also feel perfectly safe with titegroup laddering starting around 4.5 grains although load data is only showing titegroup with 220 gr Keith bullets. I have some books down in the basement I’ll dig through but not tonight.
I don’t know what’s realistic or reasonable. I guess I was thinking 700-800fps range but no clue if that’s realistic in .41 Special brass or not.
Hitting the 700-800 fps range in .41 Special brass is definitely achievable, especially with lighter bullets. The .41 Special was designed to provide a good balance of power and recoil, so you have some flexibility.
For your load development, consider using lighter projectiles, like a 200-grain bullet, which could help you reach your desired velocity without excessive recoil. Experimenting with different powder charges of TiteGroup or even Trail Boss could yield some interesting results.
Have you decided on a specific bullet weight for your loads? That could really help narrow down your options for powder selection.

I would say a 210 gr bullet at 700 is reduced recoil and would be an accurate load with the plated bullets. The Tightgroup ladder I suggested above would do that or even less. So would the trailboss but I wouldn’t do less then a full case with that. Trailboss is pretty much a full case load whether in a 41 or a 45-70. With Titegroup you can back the load off until you see the bullets landing on the ground in front of you and then up it a couple 10ths. I can get Extreme 240’s out of my 44 Special down to 550fps at Around 3.7 gr. and they still make it out hard enough to knock down steel. Pretty safe powder for lite loads.
Looking at the Sierra website they list 4.6-5.4 grains of Unique with their 210gr. JHC bullet. I don’t know enough about handloading yet to know if I could use 4.6-5.4 grains with my 210gr. FP copper plated bullet or if it would need adjustment. I’d like to use 4.8gr. for 650fps if I could. Maybe even the 4.6gr./600fps combination if it wouldn’t be too low a charge and cause pressure problems.
Did you capture that photo?
No, I can’t verify that from the text I was given. If you want, I can still help read the load data or the .41 Special details that were discussed around it.

I have never worried about subbing plated bullets for any other jacketed types in recipes. You should be good.
