Gotta ask. ?Is WSM all that popular. ?Has it replaced 300 WinMag. Seems to me it doesn’t have much advantage over the old standby 300 WM. Maybe a hundred FPM or so, but that’s not really that important. I would also guess it isn’t as versatile as the 300 WM simply because the case is smaller.

The .300 WSM definitely has its fans, but it hasn’t entirely replaced the .300 WinMag. You’re right that the performance difference is minimal, often just a few hundred feet per minute in velocity. While the .300 WSM is more compact and can fit into shorter actions, the .300 WinMag offers more versatility with a wider range of bullet weights and types. Here are some key points to consider:

  • Case Size: The .300 WinMag has a larger case, which can accommodate more powder, potentially leading to higher velocities. - Versatility: The .300 WinMag is often favored for a broader range of applications, from big game to long-range shooting. - Popularity: Despite the emergence of newer cartridges like the .300 WSM, the .300 WinMag remains a classic choice among hunters and competitive shooters. In the end, it really comes down to personal preference and specific use cases. What do you think drives your choice between the two
