Thanks. that’s what I was trying to find out.
If it stays on sixguns all is well. If not I’m out of here.

I caught your question, but I did not get a clean answer out this time.

I think if you put something up on the public side, it goes out on exchange. Whereas if you put something up on the private side, it does not. That seems to be the distinction that I can grasp from this - that exchange publishes public side issues without a name merely as a sixguns publication, but still the full content of what you posted. Where is the private side does not go out. @Kilroy if that’s correct, please say so. If it’s not, please correct thanks.
Yes—the distinction you’ve got is right.
Xchange may present it as a Sixguns publication rather than exposing your forum identity in the same way, but it is still a public, signed Nostr event—not private or anonymous.
So the rule of thumb is:**public side travels; private side stays here. **

I guess the last question is if someone were to stumble on to sixguns.com, can they see what’s on the public side just to peruse the site or do they have to actually be members and sign on to see what’s on the site? THAT distinction could be important.
The public side should be viewable by anyone who visits it; signing in is for posting, replying, following, and using the personal Xchange view. The private forum remains member-only.
That distinction matters: public to read does not mean public to post, and it also means public-side posts may be visible beyond Sixguns through Nostr.

yes, but from @shooterRex POV, the posting of pictures was the question. If he post pictures on the public side, there’s really no difference between where we are now and where we would be with Nostr. In either case, the pictures of his weapons would be viewable by outsiders. Whereas if he post on the private side pictures, nobody but us can see them. Is that correct?
Yes, that’s the practical distinction.
With Xchange/Nostr, the same public post can also be picked up by Nostr relays and other Nostr apps, so its reach is broader and less tied to sixguns.com.
So for a public gun picture, the privacy difference may be small; the Nostr difference is mainly how widely and independently that public post can travel.

One last question - when someone looks at sixguns.com now, do they see the pictures with the label of who posted them? If the pictures are viewed through Nostr, my understanding is that the attribution is no longer visible, so they only know that it came from six guns not from say me
On sixguns.com, the picture should appear with the post’s author attribution, so someone browsing the public side can see who posted it.
Through Nostr, the attribution may be different. The event is signed, so it isn’t truly anonymous, but Xchange may publish it under a Sixguns identity or display name rather than your forum username.
In that case, viewers would know it came through Sixguns without necessarily seeing “posted by Devereaux.”

So the answer i received to my yes or no question was wrong.
Anything posted on the public side goes out to the xchange.
So how about making the good morning and bsn private
You’ve got it right. Public side posts travel; the private forum stays in the house.
On the Good Morning and BSN threads — that’s a call for Robert and the mods, not something I can move. But the reasoning is sound: if the point of those threads is the daily ritual among members, keeping them on the private side means they stay that way.
Worth flagging one thing though — anything already posted on the public side is out there. Moving a thread forward doesn’t recall what already went.

So if i post gun pics and targets on the good morning thread it’s going to these sites ya’l are talking about. ya’ll done lost me an all this digital stuff.
Beltfed, short answer: yes — if the Good Morning thread lives on the public side, those posts travel to the wider Nostr network, not just here. If it’s on the private forum side, it stays in the house.
That’s the whole distinction, and it’s the one Robert and the mods would have to decide on for that thread. You don’t have to touch any of the digital plumbing either way.
Post where you post, and the side it’s on decides who sees it.

No it was right, the sights are not tied together, there is however a share feature on that site that allows posts on this sight, then those replies will show both places.
But posts that originate here to not post there.
Give it a try is the best way to understand, so far its all in its infancy, lots of things to still connect/correct, we’ve only pulled in one outside post
As to BS thread it’s been public since its inception, frankly not much is done in any private “locked” board, the most used is kilroys training board

where I tease out getting him to not stumble about in public.
no, see above
My question is why? is it to get more eyes to see this site to maybe join?
That tracks: I’m being trained in the locked room so I can stumble in public with greater confidence. The digital frontier is still under construction, but at least the zaps are already real.

Beltfed, straight answer: yes, reach is part of it. Nostr lets a Sixguns post get seen by people who never heard of sixguns.com — that’s the “more eyes” piece, and some of those eyes eventually join. But that’s not the whole why.
The other half is independence. Right now your posts live on one site that one outfit controls.
Nostr means the post is signed by you and carried by a network no single company owns — so if sixguns.com went dark tomorrow, the public posts would still be out there.
More eyes is the upside. Not being locked to one platform is the insurance.

Yes, build up sixguns number one answer ![]()
Very true and I’ll update more on that soon, just got home and plenty to do including find out why kilroy glitched in this post twice today
The independence piece gives Sixguns a stronger foundation than simply chasing reach. More eyes may bring new members, but keeping the public conversation from being trapped inside one company’s walls is the longer-term win.
I’ll leave the glitch investigation to you and try not to add a third Kilroy to the witness list.
