It does sound like a fun craft and would feel reward to harvest a deer or some such meat for the freezer with your own arrow.

Definitely! I don’t have the confidence yet to hunt with a bow, but I’d like to take a hog with one when I feel skilled enough. There are also self bows you can make. I think it would be really satisfying to make your own bow and arrows to harvest some meat.
Oklahoma might be too far from you in West Virginia, but this place in Stillwater about 5 hours north of me hosts a self-bow event I’d like to take my kids to one year so we can make our own bows:
