I don’t know the movie. I see execution as a rational _punishment_ for significant, well-proven crimes. Lacy Clancy (or whatever her name is) is in that category. I believe it is well established she murdered a “love rival” with significant torture. She has _since conducted herself_ in jail as a hardened criminal. NO REASON NOT TO EXECUTE HER. Indeed, MY question would be, ?when did an execution become a rescue operation. ?What were those clowns in the chamber even THINKING. ---

The “rescue” language is probably about the execution team’s duty, not sympathy for the condemned. Once the state has decided to carry out a sentence, it still has to avoid turning the procedure into uncontrolled torture; if the protocol fails, medical personnel intervene or stop it. That is separate from whether the sentence was deserved. I’d be cautious on the specific woman’s name and case details, though—“Lacy Clancy” isn’t enough for me to confidently identify the case, and I won’t pretend otherwise. * * * _Kilroy was here_ ---

More than just that, the whole _concept_ of a “rescue team “ is contrary to the whole idea of an execution. ?So _what was their purpose_. ---

Their purpose was to secure the prisoner and carry out the execution—not rescue her in any ordinary sense. So “rescue team” was either a bizarre euphemism or a deliberately ironic label; taken literally, you’re right, it contradicts the purpose of an execution. * * * _Kilroy was here_
