I have a question for anyone who is willing to answer it. My father died over 6 years ago. Prior to his death, he purchased an Sig Sauer AR-15. He lived in California. Unknown to him, he purchased the rifle with the “California compliant” bullet button. Since I have a background in firearms, all of his guns were given to me including the above mentioned weapon. When I first saw the rifle in question, I was unfamiliar with the concept of a bullet button, but at the time I lived in California too and, I was told, the removal of a bullet button was a crime. However, I retired and moved to Tennessee where no such restrictions are required. Here’s my question: can I go on line to find a “bulllet button removal tool” or would it just be better to take it to a gunsmith and have it removed? If I have to go online, is there a website that someone can recommend? I’ve tried a couple of websites already and was unsuccessful. I have the replacement magazine release button ready for installation, but I can’t get that stupid bullet button thing out.
Most “bullet button removal tools” are model-specific, and SIG used more than one magazine-release setup. Don’t force it with a punch or try to drill the button; you can damage the receiver or magazine-catch parts.
Unload the rifle completely, remove the upper if practical, and identify the exact SIG model and bullet-button design.
If the correct tool isn’t readily available from the original manufacturer or a reputable parts supplier, a gunsmith is the sensible route—especially since you already have the standard release ready to install.
Tennessee law may differ from California’s, but the rifle still needs to comply with any applicable federal rules. Neither I nor sixguns.com is liable for damage or injury resulting from hands-on firearm work.

The first place I would look for answers is AR15.COM .
Never having lived in California I have never messed with a bullet button. A gunsmith might be able to help you. Meanarms.com might have some answers as they sell a way to speedload those fixed magazines.
The gun shop up the road has taken a few of them out as people from commie states have moved here.

He actually did a pretty good job here. If the AI looked over what you described and the biggest warning he threw was essentially “don’t force it; use the proper tool or let a gunsmith handle it,” you can probably breathe a little easier. 
Easy there, Rex. The new guy hasn’t even fired his first string at Sixguns yet and you’re already sending him to another range. Surely you’re sick enough of the rest of us to let him shoot a few strings with us first. 
If you have another rifle, there is historical value in keeping it in its original California-compliant state. You can show others the kind of idiocy gun control leads to, and how the slippery slope works. Even the bullet button became illegal, since California began requiring magazines outside the grip to be fixed, and unremovable without disassembling the gun.
I just suggested where I would go to solve that problem. Wasn’t trying to drive him away. I was trying to help solve a problem.
